Default Logging into to GW1 to Save Names for GW2

So the news hit yesterday that we get to reserve our names for GW2 by having character names on our account in GW1. Note: You have to play GW2 during the 3 day headstart or on launch day to get these names. After that, all of the names end up for grabs for use by other players. Other note: One word names can NOT be made in GW1, but CAN be made in GW2. So all one word names are available for GW2 during the headstart and launch day. You just have to be quick to make them.

My question is this: What happens if I want a name that isn't on my GW1 account yet. I don't want to buy another character slot for a name in a new game, but I am afraid that if I delete a character I could end up losing HoM rewards. Once I have entered rewards into my HOM, is that info then saved to my account forever? I am 50/50 on my HoM and don't want to lose any progress accidentally, but as I only play RA anymore, it doesn't really matter to me if I lose some extra PvE characters that I haven't played in years, I just don't want to lose any HoM points if I do so. For example, I got Survivor on a PvE Mesmer a few years back, but I don't really play her as I just roll a PvP Mesmer for RA. Will I lose the Survivor statue and subsequent HoM points if I delete her to make a character with a name I want for GW2?

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can offer.
